Sorry everyone, i have been so busy, i only had one night to drink rum this week. Anyway I was in the middle of nursing two dogs, and still had to work. Most of the bears were cooperating well, so this helped a lot. Then I run into a young male, with a bit of an attitude. He wouldn't run from me, I had to go back to the truck and get Tucker. I kept him on the leash and he worked good. Lots of barking and jumping. The bear started to run so I let the pup loose. They both disapeared into the bush and I could hear the bear climbing a tree. Perfect, I'll just go in and work the situation a bit, training both the dog and the bear at the same time. What happened next was the most perfect, or imperfect timing I've ever been involved in. I don't know if I went in too fast (like to think) or too slow, but the tree was a dead one, and had broken off about ten feet above the ground. As I was going in the bear was falling down. The tree and bear fell right on me. I was flattened to the ground, tucker had the bear by the ass, and I was being used as a scrathing pad. The whole thing lasted a matter of seconds, but I layed there for about five minutes. I couldn't catch my breath, and was scared to look at what damages happened. Tucker came back, as proud as ever. I didn't have anything broke, but was badly bruised. My left arm was clawed from my shoulder to my bicep. I had a nasty set of claw marks across my gut, but everything was still on the inside. I limped back to the truck and headed for camp. I went in and cleaned up. the wounds quit bleeding so I never went for stiches. My back was black and blue from the crack of my ass to the back of my ears. Now we had three wounded, and tucker came out the big dog. I'll never forget how good he did and thank him every day for the good job. He turned into a great dog. The wounds took a long time to heal, as infection from dirty claws, and teeth is a common thing in bear attacks.
